Leadership Team

President: Leo Liu

PhD Student in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Leo is interested in studying how aquatic animals, such as fishes and stingrays, conduct near-boundary swimming and how to implement and recreate their swimming strategies in robotic settings. Coupling innovative designs with cut-edge experimental equipment, he studies how ground effect and swimming kinematics (asymmetric kinematics, undulation vs. oscillation, shape, size, and material) affect near-boundary propulsion, in light to design the next-generation bio-inspired Under Water Vehicle and to answer the morphological differences in some aquatic species. As a team player and a problem solver, Leo’s interests in Management Consulting lie in connecting with others, engaging in multidisciplinary projects, mentoring and self-growth, and, most importantly, making impacts on others’ lives. Outside of PhD and consulting, Leo enjoys the outdoors, pop concerts, dog training, and whipping up a fancy meal.

Senior Advisor: Tyler Daspit

PhD Candidate in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Tyler's research focuses on evaluation of materials for extreme environments. He works closely with Aerospace industry leaders to direct design and manufacturing. Since coming to UVa, he his experience has expanded from a Liberal Arts degree in Physics to Chemical and Material Science understanding to best serve clients. Tyler's passion for problem solving naturally extends to Management Consulting where he hopes to continue his professional career. In his free time, Tyler enjoys live music, traveling, and BBQ smoked meats.

VP of Projects: Harsh Anand

PhD Candidate in Systems Engineering

Harsh’s area of interest lies in Data Science and Operations Research, particularly in the extent of Disaster Data Science. Before coming to UVA, he had 5+ years of experience working with A.T. Kearney and Tata Research. As a Senior Data Science Consultant at Kearney, he focused on strategizing and implementing advanced data-driven analytics projects across the globe. He loves the consulting environment and challenges. Outside academia and work, Harsh enjoys Formula 1, traveling, and practices spirituality.

VP of Planning: Jenny Fu

PhD Student in Neuroscience

Jenny’s research explores the neural circuitry that processes binocular vision, or how 2D images transmitted from the eyes are combined by the brain in order to comprehend a 3D world. She is interested in management consulting for the diverse array of fields and expertise represented. In her free time, Jenny enjoys cooking, trivia, and digital painting.

VP: Candace Lei

PhD Student in Biomedical Engineering

Candace is interested in studying the effects on aberrant protein activities in brain cancer, and how that contributes to therapeutic resistance. Prior to UVa, she interned at a biotech and spent 3+ years at Boehringer Ingelheim as a Research Scientist. Her background in both business and science allows her to analyze strategic directions of companies holistically, especially in the life science industry. Candace's analytical mindset and passion for creative solutions motivate her to pursue a consulting career. Outside of research, Candace enjoys cooking, outdoor activities, and concerts.

VP: Anustup Chakraborty

PhD Student in Electrical Engineering

Anustup is currently a fifth year PhD student in Electrical Engineering. His research focuses on laser systems and device characterization for renewable energy and aerospace applications. His interests include music, running, and trying new cuisines.
