Welcome to the Graduate Consulting Club at UVA!

The Graduate Consulting Club at UVA is a group of advanced-degree students at the University of Virginia interested in consulting and business careers. We have developed an initiative to match skilled students with pro-bono consulting projects in addition to our normal programming of seminars, case preps, and networking events. Our goal is to provide graduate students and post-doctoral fellows with real-world consulting experience and support local businesses by offering high-quality analyses and reports for free. GCC members’ analytical and communication skills developed throughout our PhD, MD, JD, and Master’s programs provide excellent resources for high-quality data analysis and developing effective business strategies.

The Graduate Consulting Club at the University of Virginia stands in solidarity against racial injustice, police brutality, violence, and hatred. We are disgusted and ashamed by the blatant killing of black women and men that is so deeply rooted in our nation’s history. We stand as allies in the fight against this systemic racism and as a group, are completely intolerant of any such behavior in our club, university, community, and nation. We know that change comes from within our ranks, and we strive to create a more inclusive environment in our club and community. Systemic racism and other acts of hatred and discrimination continue to invade our university and the Charlottesville community. As a professional development club, these issues are critical to recognize and improve upon because diversity, inclusion, and equity in so many careers, including consulting, continues to be a problem. We know that scientific discovery can only truly flourish when we include diverse perspectives and backgrounds that span the full range of the human experience in our communities, universities, and labs. We hold ourselves and our university accountable for making these changes. We encourage others to stand with us and denounce racism in all forms.

Moving forward, the Graduate Consulting Club pledges that alongside our mission of promoting the professional development of our members, we will also invest an equal amount of time and effort into the following activities:

  1. We will fight to increase inclusivity in our club. We will make it known that our club welcomes individuals from all walks of life, and will explicitly advocate and recruit black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) at all ranks of our institution.

  2. We will foster an environment where all individuals feel safe and encouraged to learn and share their ideas as we prepare for our future careers.

  3. We will encourage diversity and inclusion as peers and professionals in every meeting, classroom, and event we attend.

  4. We will remain open to learning from others and owning up to our mistakes.

  5. We will be open to change and not be afraid to suggest change when and where change is needed.

  6. We will speak out against injustice and racism in all forms.

  7. We will publicly acknowledge that our club, our university, and our community can, and must, do better.

  8. We will keep ourselves, our peers, and our university accountable.

Together, the Graduate Consulting Club will promote diversity, inclusion, and equity at the University of Virginia and will carry that mission with us as we move on to careers in consulting. We encourage others to help and stand with us in our mission.
